Movie Parallel Contemplation

Feliz Navidad, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza, and a Fantabulously Happy New Year and New Decade!

May all your celebrations bring you joy and a deep feeling of love.

I am quite fascinated by how the last decade has felt and unfolded. There have been so many shifts spiritually.  Ever increasing numbers of people have embraced the metaphysical, as well as health- and environment-conscious practices.

It has been an incredible ride so far, with blissful highs, crashing lows and a whole host of everything in between. And we continue ever onward.

I find movies often reflect the concerns of their time period, and was struck with this watching one the other day.  Yet I also noticed how similar feeling concerns are felt in many eras, simply with a different focus or "face".

In this particular movie the negative forces were prevailing, the controlling powers seemed unstoppable and it seemed that evil would take over everything. This was also expressed as internal struggles in the film. People who became very aware of that dark or shadow part within them.

While it was playing, I was making the connections to how things have been seeming in the "real life" world. The struggles of countries, nations, groups, the environment and individuals. I wondered to myself what solutions the film would offer to the fictional crises and if they would be applicable to us here and now.

I feel they were. While used many times over in films too numerous to mention, this still holds true. The good outnumber the 'bad' and when we realize this and join together we will prevail. On the individual front, it was to not be afraid of who we truly are. When we fully embrace that light side of ourselves, it is very powerful.

I took a little step away from the movie, to view it from the position of being in one's light self. All of what the dark was saying seemed like the barking of a dog. The thrashing of something not getting its way. Fear. To me the answer was clear. Do not engage it in its story. Do not even look upon it as real. Remove all power from it by remembering that there is only light. When negative thoughts come, remember your power to consciously choose a truer thought. Remember that we paint situations with meaning, and we have the ability to choose and to change what we paint them with.

We truly are more powerful than we think.

Perhaps we could break that down even more to say that we are even more powerful than what we think, or when we think.

Duality is quite the playground. Here's to us recognizing more and more that we can play in it instead of being played by it.
